FAQ about CHIROPRACTIC

Can I go to the gym before my adjustment?
Yes. Generally, Adjustments can be received at any time and it is better to go to the gym before your adjustment rather than after. However, strenuous and impactful exercise is not recommended for those who have pain or discomfort. It is important not to ‘muscle through’ the pain and test whether it will aggravate your pain.

Can I go to the gym or exercise after my adjustment?
No, I don’t recommend doing exercise immediately after an adjustment. A physically strenuous activity can interrupt the proper processing of the adjustment and stop you from getting the maximum beneficial effect. An adjustment is a force that is meant to influence the neurological function of Your body (nervous system and muscles) and needs time for your body to adapt to the changes it was meant to deliver.

Exercise exposes your body to forces that alters the effect of the adjustment and can minimize the positive effect of the adjustment. The same applies to heavy lifting or bending (e.g. gardening) immediately after the adjustment. It is not advisable to lift heavy or bend while lifting after and adjustment. An easy, or brisk, stroll or walk is better because it

Adjustment or Massage first?
In order to accurately detect the muscle tension and compensation patterns brought on by subluxations, having a chiropractic check before a massage is advised.  Massage helps to release tension in the muscles and can lead to inaccurate readings during the chiropractic check.

Is Chiropractic care covered by Medicare?
In general, chiropractic is not covered under Medicare. Most people who are under chiropractic care pay their fees out of their own pocket. However, the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) program, also known as the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) program, is a government program that allows people with Medicare access to chiropractic with a referral from their General Practitioner. It can entitle them up to 5 Medicare-subsidised visits per calendar year (i.e. 1st Jan to 31st Dec).

Please refer to our ‘EPC Info Sheet’ to learn how to access the EPC or inquire about the ‘Care Plan’ from your Doctor. To know more about the EPC/CDM program or if you have questions about it, call our office today on 9315/9394 8888.

Do I have to continue chiropractic care forever?
No. You do not have to continue chiropractic care forever. The purpose of chiropractic is to maintain the health of the spine in order for it to function at its best throughout life. That’s  because the most important function of the spine is to protect the spinal cord that runs through it. If the spine is healthy then the spinal cord can let the communication to and from the brain and body to be clear. As a result, the body can express proper and optimal health. If the spine is not healthy, or loses its health, then the communication line provided by the spinal cord will have interference, which affects the way the body expresses health.

Chiropractic for your spine is part of maintaining spinal hygiene; it’s like brushing your teeth. Exercise, stretching and eating well helps the body stay healthy but that doesn’t keep subluxations from If you discontinue looking after the spine

Can Chiropractic help with Spring Allergies?
Allergies may be connected to the nervous system, one of the ways our bodies gather information about the world, including which substances are harmful and require an immune system response. Some researchers believe allergies may be caused by dysfunctions in the nervous system, and the effects of chiropractic treatment on this system are well documented. Many allergy sufferers report a reduction in symptoms after regular treatments for vertebral subluxations. These treatments can correct the functioning of the nervous system, allowing it to better interpret information from our environment and reduce the “false alarms” sent to the immune system that create allergic reactions.

Do I need a medical referral to see a chiropractor?
No, you do not need a referral to see a chiropractor. A large number of people are referred by their General Practitioner to our office because we have established a good name for ourselves in the community over the 10 years we have been in Point Cook.  Most people who come to our office are usually referred by a friend or family member whom we have helped. Some choose our office because of the positive reviews about our service online, our friendly staff and our brand of chiropractic care.

Chiropractors are primary care practitioners, meaning that we are trained to admit and assess a person to determine if their condition is amenable through chiropractic care or otherwise. This is the aim when someone visits our office for the first time: to determine if chiropractic is the best intervention to help them with their needs and concerns. If we find that their condition cannot be helped through chiropractic care, we will refer them to the best practitioner who can help them with their needs.

To make an appointment to see if chiropractic can help you or to ask more questions about how to access chiropractic care, call our office on 9315/9394 8888 today.
